Wednesday Bible Study

Holy Cross’ Wednesday Bible Study meets each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., after the fellowship dinner.  Currently we are studying God’s Word with the aid of maps and a book called Regions on the Run (see for the book, Regions on the Run).  Each week we focus on a different area in the land of Israel and see how the geography both shapes events and helps us to better understand many of the Bible’s accounts.  Here’s a look at what we’ve been doing:

Before the summer, we learned the lay of the land in three areas of focus: the northern, southern, and central arenas.  We explored major geographical features and saw pictures of how they look today.  We also identified major and minor routes of travel and the cities and villages they passed through.  Then we traced developments in the region between the time of the Old and New Testaments, setting the stage for exploring Jesus’ life.  We recently finished tracing Jesus’ footsteps in and through Galilee, Samaria, Judea, and other regions as we explored various events in his life.  Now we are taking a focused look at Jerusalem itself before we study each of the three areas (norther, southern, and central) in greater detail.
