Coming after Christmas: Seminex
Holy Cross’ Wednesday Bible Study meets each week at 6:00 p.m., after a fellowship dinner at 5:00 p.m.
Having just finished our study of the liturgy, we now pause our Wednesday evening study during Advent. Come join us for Evening Prayer on December 6th, 13th, and 20th. Dinner will be served in the gym at 6:00 p.m., and Evening Prayer will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Our series this winter will run from early January through mid February, and then take a break for Lent and Holy Week. We'll explore the biblical and doctrinal issues surrounding the "Walkout" at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis on February 19th, 1974. On that date the majority of students and faculty at the seminary literally walked out of the seminary and formed the "Seminary in Exile" or Seminex. What was the Seminex controversy? It was more than just a "battle for the Bible," and it touched on issues as important and far reaching as the nature and relationship between the gospel and Scripture, the historical-critical method, confessional subscription, church fellowship, creation, and the supernatural. Check back for more details, and come join us to learn why this event of fifty years ago was important and still impacts us today.
